I love Pilates for the adoption of many everyday items. From Joseph’s genius invention of turning a hospital bed into a Pilates Cadillac, to tennis balls being transformed into muscle massaging devices, we really are a practical bunch!
Tennis balls are an excellent and inexpensive Pilates accessory that will really help you develop your Pilates practice and work muscles you didn’t know you had. They can be used during all Pilates positions such as standing and are also handy little cheat-catchers when in Relaxation Position.

Achilles Strengthening
This exercise is great for those with weak arches, weak Achilles or those of us who love to wear high heels.
The next time you are watching television or making dinner simply plop the tennis ball between your ankles and start to float up and down, your feet and ankles will love you, honest!
- Standing correctly (as always) with parallel legs a few inches apart
- Place the tennis ball between your ankles, behind your ankle bones
- The aim of the game is to rise up onto the balls of your feet keeping the tennis ball between your ankles
- Then, with control, come back down to the mat.
